The Royal Sydney Golf Club has an impressive history and is the second oldest club in New South Wales, celebrating its 100th birthday in 1993. Rather than having a single architect, the course has evolved over many years. It has developed and changed, but has remained an ‘old-fashioned’, traditional course with heavy bunkers and wide fairways. There are no gimmicks, tricks or watery caverns. The Royal Sydney Golf Club is not just about golf. The club is also home to 20 tennis courts, two squash courts, two croquet lawns and two bowling greens. The present clubhouse was constructed in 1922 and is elegantly furnished and home to a large collection of fine Australian art. It has status as a pre-eminent social institution and features bars, restaurants, function rooms, bridge rooms, a billiards room, a bottle shop and a reading lounge.
