Over 2,900 animals make their home on the vast 52 acres that encompass the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. Within the zoo, visitors will find native and exotic species such as Asian elephants, Kodiak bears, western lowland gorillas, Sumatran tigers, snow-leopards, chimpanzees and giraffes. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy zoo keeper talks, educational animal shows and animal feedings. Trails weave beside the various animal exhibits for close up encounters. The zoo overlooks the picturesque Sydney Harbour and the views are outstanding from virtually every trail in the zoo.



Taronga zoo is divided into eight distinct zoo geographic regions that are tailor designed to fit the needs of the region’s animal. At the zoo’s Great Southern Oceans exhibit, visitors can observe pelicans, Australian sea lions, New Zealand fur seals, Californian sea lions, leopard seals and penguins. The Nura Diya exhibit and tour features native Australian wildlife such as koalas, kangaroos and wallabies. The Rainforest Aviary lets visitors view exotic birds. Visitors who want to get up close and personal with some of the animals can opt to pay an additional fee and embark on the Animal Encounters adventure. Staff at the park will take the individuals into the enclosures so they can see the animals closely and capture vibrant pictures. Professional photos are also available.


Within the zoo, visitors can board the Sky Safari cable car ride for breathtaking views of the animal, the harbour and the surrounding countryside. The cable car ride also provides transportation to the zoo’s other side to limit walking. Taronga Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Visitors can depart from Sydney on the daily ferry and arrive at the zoo’s gates within 10 minutes. Public transportation is also available to the park and there is 120 car parking lot.
